When in Lonavala, there are a variety of places a tourist should visit :
Lonavala is the place to be if you want to take a break from your hectic lifestyle. this gorgeous hill station, located in Sahyadri ranges, is known not just for its salubrious climate and scenic view, but also many tourist attractions. Though a small place, Lonavala has many sightseeing places that can be explored on a tour to this hill-station.

Apart from the breathtaking view of the lush-green trees and shrubs, the hills, the waterfalls and the Lonavala Chikki, there is a lot more to see at this mystifying hill station. Tourists can visit Khandala as well, which is a neighboring hill-station check out information on some of the most popular tourist attractions of Lonavala in the following lines.

Karla Caves And Ekvira Devi Temple :

Karla, located near Lonavala, is a complex of cave shrines built by Buddhist monks around 3rd to 2nd century B.C. the Karla cave complex is built into a rocky hillside around 8 kilometers from Lonavala with large windows cut into the rock to light the cave interiors.

The caves are believed to be some of thousands of similar caves excavated in the Sahyadri hills in the early 1st millennium ad.

It is about 10 km's from Resort Silver Hills on the old Mumbai-Pune highway towards Pune. One can go by road to the base of the caves and from there one has to take the steps to the caves / temple. it takes about 45 min's to climb about 100 steps.



Boating at M.T.D.C. Karla and Pawna Dam :

Boating facilities are available at lake Pavna (22 km's from Resort Silver Hills) and at M.T.D.C. Karla (12 km's from Resort Silver Hills).

One could choose a paddle boat, motor boat or speed boat. it is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

The facility is closed during the month of Monsoons.



Celebrity Wax Museum :

Another attraction in the town of Lonavala is Celebrity Wax Museum.

Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hariharan, Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Mother Teresa, Sai Baba, A.R. Rahman, Balaji Tambe and Yesudas are among some of the famous personalities one will find at the Celebrity Wax Museum which is 5 kms from Resort Silver Hills on old-Mumbai highway towards Pune.



Rye Wood Park & Shivaji Udyan :

Adding to the lush green surroundings of Lonavala are Rye wood park and Shivaji Udyan. The stunning gardens are amongst the favorite picnic spots of the children, owing to the soaring trees and spacious open spaces provided by them.

The swings set up at the parks further add to their appeal. An ancient Shiva temple, situated inside one of the parks, is visited by a large number of people every day.

It is about 3 kms from Resort Silver Hills towards Lonavala town.



Lonavala lake :

Splendid views, serenity and peace. The lonavala lake is also known as the monsoon lake. Gushing, vibrant and absolutely splendid during the monsoon, the lake is a must visit during the rainy season. Located 1.6 km away from the center of the city, the lake was built around 1876. The scenic landscape surrounding the lake makes for a perfect spot to relax and rejuvenate.

The perfect way to spend your afternoon, the lake calls for a memorable experience. Amidst the songs of nature, you can take a refreshing stroll or enjoy a few moments enveloped in the wonders of nature. Bird lovers are in for a special treat with an exotic and rare variety of birds.

The lake dries up between november to june months. Its about 1 km ahead of rye wood park and 4 kms from Resort Silver Hills.



Tiger's leap/lions point :

Tiger's leap also known as Tiger's point is a cliff-top with a sheer drop of over 650 m, giving an extensive view of the valley and mountains. Just around Tiger's leap, there is a small waterfall active only during the monsoon. Good place for all ages as there are a number of activities like horse buggy ride , camel ride, astrologers and one can also see far of cliffs with telescope.
A visual delight during monsoons as the place is covered with dense fog and visibility is near zero. It is on the way to Amby Valley after I.N.S Shivaji, about 18 kms from Resort Silver Hills.



Bushi dam :

This is definitely one of the most exciting sites to visit in lonavala. This dam has a beautiful waterfall in the vicinity, which is a must see. The surrounding area of the dam has been developed into a beautiful catchments area for tourists to enjoy. The dam overflows during the monsoon and one can enjoy the waterfalls here. Bushi Dam is about 7 kms from Resort Silver Hills.



Sunset point / rajmachi garden ( khandala ) :

Is located about 5.5 km from Resort Silver Hills towards Khandala .

This point commands a view of Shivaji's famous fort, Rajmachi (royal terrakouioce) and the surrounding valley. Sunset point is an excellent place from where you can watch the sunset.

The mumbai-pune expressway, the rail and national highway can all be viewed together along with the setting sun from this viewpoint.
